Information on stocking the pantry and kitchen

We buy our grains and spices in bulk from a food coop.  We are growing many of the herbs and vegetables we use.  We will freeze and can anything we don't consume at the time of harvest.  My Dad enjoys drying food with his dehydrator.

When I started with this list, I didn't buy anything unless I knew I would be using it in food I planned to prepare.  I didn't want a pantry full of items I might never use.  As I was retyping this list, I realized that my food choices have changed over the last two years to reflect new information I've gathered so I revised the list a little.  The original list included things like margarine and canola oil which I no longer use and tofu which I've never used.  There are some things included on this list that I've never purchased as I haven't experimented with them yet.  The things that are currently in my pantry are bolded & underlined.

I hope this list gives you a starting point to a well-stocked pantry.  (I got the basics for this list from Karey Swan's Hearth & Home, but I've modified it somewhat based on information from Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions.  For information about obtaining a copy of Karey's book, email or call her at the contact information found on the Swan's website.)

Though the fig tree does not blossom and there is no fruit on the vines, [though] the product of the olive fails and the fields yield no food, though the flock is cut off from the fold and there are no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation! [Rom 8:37.]  The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]!  Habakkuk 3:17-19 AMP
