The Life Skills List

When I first wrote up this list, I had planned to use it to teach ALL 4 of my children ALL of the skills I had listed (and the list kept growing!)  LOL  Thankfully, I found Marilyn Howshall's articles on the web and ordered her Wisdom's Way of Learning bookletsDevelop a Lifestyle Routine really brought home the unprofitable-ness of some of what we were currently engaged in and what I was ultimately "planning" to do with (to?) my children.  On p. 43 of Develop a Lifestyle Routine, MH wrote:  "Real life is God's provision.  It's real, full and profitable for all the necessary disciplines of life, and therefore not lacking for any good thing."  This is the awesome plan of God.  We don't need to add to it greatly or artificially (thereby increasing our burdens).  All we have to do is *live* it.

So why did I include the list on the homeschooling page?  I wanted to use it to help parents find the resources they might need to develop interests their children might have.  Don't know how helpful it will be...  God has provided for us abundantly and in ways I could not have imagined in the areas that He desires for my children to pursue--usually by bringing someone into our lives that can provide either financially or by teaching the needed skill.  I've also linked to resources you can purchase if need be, but don't forget to check your library first!  Pray for God's guidance, wisdom and provision in all that He is showing your family.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."  Jeremiah 29:10-13

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.  1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 NIV

Though the fig tree does not blossom and there is no fruit on the vines, [though] the product of the olive fails and the fields yield no food, though the flock is cut off from the fold and there are no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation! [Rom 8:37.]  The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]!  Habakkuk 3:17-19 AMP
