"How sweet are
Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your
precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word
is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Ps 119:103-105

When Jesus told the disciples to cast their net on the other side of
the boat after they had spent hours fishing and caught nothing, they
simply obeyed and wham! What a catch! They caught so many fish that
they could not get them all in the boat and wound up towing the net
full of fish to shore. (John 21:6-8).
Now what was different about what they did before Jesus spoke and
afterwards? They were using the same boat, the same net, in the same
place, with the same people. They were using the same tools in the
same industry, operating the way they always had. But! They had a
word of direction from the Master and the results were suddenly
very, very different. The yield was more than they’d ever had
before.
That’s what you call synergy. And that same synergy is available
to you and to me, just ordinary, common people who decide we want to
do what it takes to partner with God.

As we walk the narrow way we are being changed from glory to glory.
Today we should reflect a little more of the glory of God than
yesterday; tomorrow we will reflect yet more than we did today. This
is growth. Growth is not more knowledge or increase of years: it is
simply more of Him and less of me. He increases as I decrease. This
is what it means to be a disciple.

- The Cross & Death to Self
- Snippet
from The Cross is a Radical Thing by A. W. Tozer.
The cross of Christ is the most
revolutionary thing ever to appear among men.
The cross of the Roman times knew no compromise; it never made
concessions. It won all its arguments by killing its opponent
and silencing him for good. It spared not Christ, by slew Him
the same as the rest. He was alive when they hung Him on that
cross and completely dead when they took him down six hours
later. That was the cross the first time it appeared in
Christian history.
- Dying
to Self
Article by Jenna Pinson - The
Proletarian
Would you die for your husband? For your child? I know that I
would. I am sure that at one time or another, we all mentally
ready ourselves for what we may feel lead to do in extreme
circumstances. No one wants to hesitate in that one instance
when we have the chance to give up our life to save someone that
we love so dear. It seems so simple when we think of it in that
instance, that one moment of time when we have to decide whether
what we want our love of this life to rule us, or whether
through God’s grace, we are going to conquer it triumphantly.
- Prayer
- Watchman.Net:
When You Pray
For too long we have practiced and preached prayer as a
means towards our own ends. I am thinking of several popular
teachings and books on the market today which make prayer out to
be a ritual through which we can induce God to give us what we
want. This philosophy gives us the illusion of a manageable
deity, a "god" who is under our control, having no
choice but to respond to a prayer properly worded or recited. A
person of average intelligence should be able to see that this
is a ridiculous caricature of God - it is a misrepresentation
and a deception.
- Fasting
- Watchman.Net:
When You Fast
That Jesus intends for His disciples
to fast is made clear by the words, "When you fast..."
If it were a matter of personal preference the Lord would have
said, "IF you fast." The word WHEN implies that there
will be times when a disciple of the Lord is called into a time
of fasting. It seems to be a foregone conclusion. Fasting is as
much a part of a disciple's life as prayer; hence the Lord
couples, "When you pray" with "when you
fast" in His teaching to the disciples.

- PreceptAustin.org:
Commentary on Romans 6, 7 & 8
Romans 6-8 "belong together" and
should not be studied independently. Therefore, although
reading and digesting the truth in Romans 6 is foundation to
living a life of freedom and progressive sanctification, you
would be wise to study all three chapters carefully as a unit.
You will note that Romans 6 deals with the believer being dead
to sin; Romans 7, with the believer being dead to the Law; and
Romans 8, with the believer alive in Spirit-given victory.
Romans 6 tells us how sin no longer reigns over us. Romans 7
explains how the Law no longer reigns over us. And finally
Romans 8 explains how the indwelling Spirit gives us life and
liberty.
- Declaration
of Dependence: Does
Holiness Come By Striving After it or By Resting in God?
By Jerry Bridges
As I sat in the doctor’s waiting room,
my attention was drawn to a portrait of a man sculpted out of a
block of marble. The sculpture was complete down to about
mid-thigh, but below that the partially chipped away marble
gradually phased into the outline of the original block.
The man in the sculpture was handsome and robust, the kind of
body any man would like to have. But the arresting thing about
the picture was that the sculptor’s hammer and chisel were in
the hands of the man being sculpted. The man was sculpting
himself. As I pondered the painting, I was struck by its
graphic portrayal of how many Christians seek to grow in
personal holiness. We try, as it were, to sculpt or mold
ourselves. We seek to grow in holiness through our own
personal efforts and willpower. And we’re just as
ludicrous as a block of marble trying to sculpt itself.

Reading Plan
From pg 99 in "The
Challenge." This plan alternates books of the
Old Testament with the New. Quoting from the book,
"The main advantage of the plan," Evelyn provided,
"is that after you've read something highly detailed like
Leviticus or Numbers, you have reading of a totally different
style right ahead, like a gospel account. Or, when you're
through dealing with some heavy-duty New Testament
confrontational teaching, like in Romans, you find yourself
looking forward to returning to something more historical, like
First or Second Samuel. By the time you finish a book,
your eagerness for the change of pace can help draw you
forward."
